What Can Fly?

After looking at helicopter seeds and making our own helicopters, this week we used clay to brainstorm other things we knew that could fly. 

Our Dream Home

Last week we borrowed Miss Powell's You Choose book, by Nick Sharratt. One page asked us "Which home would you choose? and it had lots of pictures of different kinds of homes. 

We sketched our ideal home in our provocation books and on Wednesday the AMAZING Sonya Beckley came in and helped us bring our sketches to life with clay! 

These look fantastic! Our visitors on Wednesday we certainly impressed! 

This is the third time we have used clay this year so we really wanted to think about how we could make our creation without it breaking when it dried. We used solid chunks of clay and even reinforced some bits with popsicle sticks inside. 

Come into Room 4 and check them out! They are proudly displayed on the round table by the door. 

Our Favourite Animals

This week while Miss Gardner was away Room 4 did some very cool art with Mrs Thigpen and Mrs Jacomb. 

As part of our provocation we have been talking a lot about our favourite animals. Take a look at these awesome art works. They are now on display in the cloakroom. A big thank you to Henare from Room 13 for helping me staple them up this afternoon! 

What's Your Favourite Animal?

This term we are looking at "Knowing Me, Knowing You". We are getting to know each other in Room 4 and today we wondered, "What is your favourite animal?" We used clay to express our ideas. 

 A cat is my favourite animal because it can play with a ball. – Amelia

 Cats are my favourite pet, they purr when they are happy. That’s the only pet that can do that. – Oliana

 It’s a caterpillar because I like the colours of them and I have had a fat caterpillar for a pet. It turned into a butterfly and flew away. – Liliana

 Cats are fluffy and they are nice. I have a cat at home. She is blonde and nice. – Cashious-Max

 I made a cat and a rabbit and a caterpillar. I like caterpillars because they have nice colours and have beautiful wings. I like the cat because I had one and it ran away but I would like to have another one. A rabbit is nice and soft and beautiful. – Mahdiya

 This is a penguin. I chose this because it was in the story “The Clever Penguin.” – Willow

 I’m making a meerkat. They stand up high. They eat meat I think? I saw some eat pork. – Mana

 This is my dog. I like sleeping with my dog because he is the best dog ever. – Aroha

 It’s a reindeer. It’s in a game that I play. – Noah

 I made a cat because I like my cat. I like his colours. He is a whitey brownie colour. – Helena

I am making a zebra. Zebra starts like my name Z. – Zoe

 They are animals from Africa. A elephant and a walrus. I chose them because a walrus has big teeth and tusks and so does a elephant. A walrus claps his fins. – Zack
